A very good day!

I had five examples of my tattoo artwork entered at a local tattoo show. Each one of the five pieces won:

First place: Best large color piece on a male
First place: Best large color piece on a female
First place: Most realistic on a male
First place: Best medium color on a female
Second place: Most realistic on a female

Aaaaand..... I won best in show!

You can see the piece I won best in show with here:
http://www.everytattoo.com/tattooforum/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=42151&page=1&images_type=1#img
(I did both of his legs but the elephant themed leg won the Best in Show prize)

I hate to toot my own horn usually but damnit, I swept the show this year and I'm proud. :D

I don't consider any of our time together a waste, in fact they were some of the best years of my life and I hope -- once the anger and sadness and betrayal wears off, that you can look back on our time together fondly as well.

You deserve better than me... I've been confused, selfish, angry and unkind. Somewhere out there, there's someone who will be all I ever was to you and more.
Dream:

There's this great big long windowless corridor in the school I go to. I and a bunch of other students need to clear off the right-hand wall, all along its length, so that it can be repaired, as it's in a state of severe disarray-- paint peeling, warping timbers, falling tiles. It's covered with old pictures and fliers from several decade's worth of students, all of which are stuck to the wall with, for some reason, sewing pins.

My job in the cleanup is to gather all the pins up. I slowly work my way down the hall, keeping the pins in a big five-gallon bucket.

Immediate change of scenery-- I'm on the floor, and most of the pins have embedded themselves in my left leg, in the back of my thigh and knee and calf. Some are stuck in my right leg as well, and a few are up in my arms, torso, and neck. They're not very deep, maybe 1'2 inch in, and at all angles. I have no idea how they ended up in my body. Nobody's panicking, there's no aftermath like you'd expect from an explosion-- fire, smoke--I'm just on the floor stuck with a thousand pins.

Everyone turns to look at me, and watch as I slowly, slowly, begin the task of pulling out the pins one by one. This part takes HOURS. People will get bored and wander off, to be replaced by new onlookers. Work on the hallway continues as I sit there and pull out pins. I'm not panicking, either... it hurts like a bitch, and I can feel the pins sliding around in my legs when I move them, but it's not frightening.

I wake up afraid of moving my legs (afraid they'll hurt, although once I do end up moving them, they're fine) And feeling really self-conscious and ugly. I have no idea.

Need advice:

I've been contacted by a lady who needs me to design some book covers. She was a teacher for 30 years in New York, and her new life's goal is to write books for adults who are functionally illiterate-- to get their reading levels up by writing books with adult themes but yet are written in a simple way that they can digest. So, basically, like a book about a mechanic who finds money under the seat of a car he's working on, and has to figure out who the money belongs to, but the book is written at a first grade level.

She sends a lot of her stuff out to prisons and juvenile corrections facilities, and she's gotten a lot of great feedback (apparently)

She wants me to design book covers for a new series she's working on, this time targeted towards young teens with less than optimal reading levels-- so, between four and six books.

Now, here's the catch-- she's been doing all this HERSELF, so she's self published, except for an unrelated series that was released by Simon and Schuster. She's losing money fast, and that's OK for here, because she's helping to make people's lives better, so it's worth it.

And this means, I won't get paid. I'll get my name in the books, and all my contact info, etc. but no financial compensation.

The humanitarian in me really wants to help her, but the realist realizes this will be a lot of work for no pay, and my schedule is already pretty full with 501st and Mandalorian Mercs volunteer work, plus the paid commissions I do otherwise. I'm undecided. I haven't yet committed one way or the other, but I told her I'd get back to her within a couple days.

Advice?

As promised, here's a mini photo album. I've picked some of the funniest, cutest, and personal favorite photos of myself over the years-- I tried to find ones that obviously reflected the era in which they were taken. There's only four, so don't feel like you'll be wading through a hundred pictures, either. I strongly encourage others to submit their own little dated photo journey. :)

1983: This is easily one of my favorite family photos. Me and mom!

1990: LASERS! For some reason, I didn't have my glasses on for this one. Probably a touch of self-consciousness. Rest assured, I've been wearing glasses since I was four (before that, I wore the dreaded eyepatch. There was also a brief period in the early 00s where I wore contacts-- more on that later)

1994: GOD. So bad. I was trying to do a stylishly short haircut then, but because my hair has unbelievable body, I just turned into 'mushroom head.' Also please to be noting my magic crystal pendant and sexy Lion King shirt. The nerdiness manifested early.

2004: A 10 year jump. This is college, during my three year pseudo-goth phase. This is also during my short contact lens period. I actually think I look really good in this photo... I'm growing my hair out again now. :)

Boy, it sure is awesome to be an abusive girlfriend. I get off SO HAAAARD on making my significant others do things like move hundreds of miles away from their family, quit their favorite activities, and stop hanging out with their friends. There's nothing I love more than throwing a monumental tantrum when I find out they've been doing something relatively harmless, like smoking marijuana or cutting themselves.

It's even better when I can use my love as leverage, demanding they do (or stop doing) something or else I'M OUTTA HERE, MISTER! And such a rush it is when they obey! Man oh man. I'm glad I'm in charge. I'm obviously smarter and more experienced at EVERYTHING, so of course I know whats best for them!

I'm the BEST GIRLFRIEND EVER.

I've always wanted a Jeep Wrangler, ever since I was wee. This last year I spent some time at dealerships, exploring my options, but sadly coming to the conclusion that my income wasn't quite good enough to try and take on the monthly payments plus insurance increase.

But my truck has been having problems steadily for the last year, and it's been nickel and diming me to death-- so much that I have had to run to my parents for emergency money for repairs multiple times.

It's getting into the winter now, and not only is my truck starting to make scary noises, but it's having a rough time getting started in the mornings.

So my dad stops by this morning to have a talk... and they're going to pay for an 04 or 05 Jeep outright-- one big check-- and I'm going to give THEM payments.

This absolves me of any responsibility to a bank in slow months where I don't earn very much money, like Oct. Nov. and Dec. but I can give much larger payments during my busy months through the summer.

Have I said lately how much I love my parents? I mean, seriously-- I absolutely love my parents. It was all I could do not to start crying when he told me, and now I actually AM crying. I mean, I've wanted a Jeep forever. And in a couple of weeks, I'll have one. This is a dream come true for me.

So I was driving through downtown Bangor today and saw a white van with large, professional graphics all over it--- 'www.lennonmurdertruth.com' 'join my fight' 'the media will never tell unless we tell them to' etc.

Intrigued, I had to check out the website, and it was... totally worth it! It's a conspiracy nut site explaining how the headlines of many major newspapers had hidden codes months before the murder, and these codes link to a conspiracy between Nixon, Reagan, and... the real killer, the man who held the gun... you guessed it, Steven fucking King.

In case you didn't know, Steven King actually lives right here in Bangor. I wonder if he's seen this white van driving around?

Computer help?

Not sure who here is techy, but my computer's being difficult right now:

I got a Blue Screen o' Death error this morning. I submitted a problem report, and at the conclusion of the report it brought up a webpage describing the effects of the BSOD and possible fixes. Pretty basic stuff, but it suggested going to the hard disk's 'properties -> tools -> error checking' (It was the option at the top, above defrag and create system backup)

I thought 'sure, why not run an error check', so I clicked the box and it told me that I would need to do the check when the disk wasn't in use (Windows is on C drive) so it asked if I wanted to schedule it for the next restart, and I did.

So like an hour later, I figure I'll restart it and get the check done, so I did... and it's been a blank screen ever since.

The computer turns on with no problems, it flashes the windows logo for less than a second, then it goes to a completely black screen. The monitor is ON, but not showing anything. The tower, meanwhile, is making all sorts of busy noises, like it's working hard. I assume the check is going all right, but now it's been more than an hour and I'm still waiting for something.. ANYTHING to happen. How long do these checks take? Should it have a progress bar or something?

I just backed the system up, so it won't kill me if I need to reformat, but I'd much rather not if I don't have to.

Any suggestions? Should I just stop worrying and wait until it finishes naturally?
